This is a spinning rod review for both the older and newer style Fenwick HMX, after about a year’s worth of use. The specific rods are the 6 foot, light powered, moderate fast action rods.
The biggest positives of the rods are that they are very sensitive and translate a tremendous amount of information to the fisherman about what is happening under the water.
The biggest negative is that in non-fishing related use like transporting the rods from one place to another or using around trees and other obstacles, the rods are fairly fragile.
The price point of the rods is about $80. Ultimate I have decided to switch to a less expensive and more durable rod for my everyday use, but I still have one HMX medium power I use for crankbaits.

Good review man!
great video sir
i like my hmx rods! there are better rods out there, but probably not for the money! good reveiw!
I just purchased a Fenwick spinning rod today, an FS65 6 1/2′ 3-6 lb line. Cork handle, copper head, Feralite. Gave $48 for it. Good deal?
Good review, told the wife this is why I like two piece rods, I usually break them down before getting to the car. I’ve used fenwick since 1985, and have 2 eagle series, one superhawk (don’t think they make that one anymore) and a 7ft hmx I use for bass fishing, love fenwick.
Wanted to ask you about the rating and the comparables of it. Like, how is the light action vs other brands? Or the medium action ones?
Has the eye guides held up well over time? Thanks
Great video man. You reviewed the exact one I was looking at and may change my mind. Thanks for the smiles too!
