Nice collection! I actually use vintage spinning reels. The old worm gear driven reels rival today’s modern reels in smooth cranking. None of the models here used worm drive gears. The Abu/Zebco Cardinal 3, Shakespeare 2052, Dam Quick 110, Dam Quick Microlite and Penn 716 were similar in size to that Mitchell 308. If you ever get the chance, give an old worm gear driven one a go! I think you will be surprised by the quality. I have a couple of videos on the Shakespeare 2052 on my channel and still need to get around to making the 3rd video on it which covers how I customized mine. That 308 is a nice one too and they used beveled gears. I have a 308 and a 408 and they are nice and still going strong. The worm drive geared reels are in a class by themselves…strongest most durable gear sets ever used in spinning reels. Unfortunately they are too expensive to produce for manufacturers today. The last reels using that gear setup was the Abu Suveran, C4 and C6 reels made in the 1990’s. The Suveran is so expensive to buy used that they are out of the average guy’s price range but they were a real beauty! Take care and give my channel a look if you have time.

Very cool!
There’s no telling how many fish they’ve landed or people they’ve fed.

Joel Bragg says:

Thanks for sharing! I for one appreciate hearing your old memories of each reel. Best of luck!

The Prybar says:

Strange, my Langley 822 has metal gears.

Ross Best says:

Like that 1st one.
