Tackle Prep Tips For Spring Bass Fishing

Quit waiting until the last minute! Get your tackle prepped early this year and you’ll be ready for Spring. Don’t wait until products are backordered in March and April to find out you’re out of hooks, worms, or that favorite jerkbait. Spend a little time organizing your gear now and it will pay off in the long run.

Matt carries 4 “go boxes” with him all Spring long. Those 4 boxes contain swimbaits, treble hooks, assorted terminal tackle, and assorted hardbaits. This time of year its important to keep your tackle in waterproof boxes to avoid rust. These are the boxes we use…

As you sort your tackle and select a variety of hard baits to carry its important to check the hooks, split rings, boxes, etc for damage. Be sure that your baits are ready for battle because in the coming weeks and months you’ll need them at a moment’s notice. Below is a break down of the gear Matt is carrying on board.

hateful Joey says:

as a nearly strictly bank fisherman, I tried to make a “hook” box… and it was just a disaster. I carry a backpack, with the box sideways, everything just got messed up. do you have any recommendations on how to organize your hooks in that situation?

I just got to the end of your video where you suggest one box. I can carry 3 boxes in my backpack comfortably. but all of the boxes are assorted, where i’ve been thinking about making bait specific boxes. swimbait box, crankbait box, & a jig box. since my terminal tackle box was messed up, i’ve taken a zip tie and ran it through the eye on the hook packaging and then ran a safety pin to the zip tie and connected it to the inside of my bag. it works decently well and I know where all of my hooks are. on the strap of my bag, i’ve also got my line cutter connected right there, so it’s within reach any time I need it and I don’t have to go digging for it.

TacticalBassin THANKS SO MUCH for all your teachings!!! I had taken your advice on many things and got out of my comfort zone. Now, not only I have become a better Bass fisherman I have also gained a lot of knowledge about this species of fish. Your recommendations have proven to work for me. I have even jumped and created a YOUTUBE CHANNEL to video myself, experiences and follow my progress as a Bass Angler. I recently developed my Channel Trailer. Please check it out and provide me with some constructive feedback.

What size hooks do you guys run on the SK 6xd???? It comes with size 2, but I wanna run the Mustad KVD short shanks. Some people say 1 or 1/0……. I know KVD goes up to even 2/0 at times. Also what size for the 3/4oz SK red eye shad???? I’m using Owner split rings of course too. Thanks for the help. Awesome video as usual. Thanks!!!!

Hope to snatch a giant or 2 tomorrow!

OPBass Fishing says:

Take a mr.clean magic eraser and put some water on it and scrub the rust and it will come off.

shtty17 says:

Awesome vid, isn’t it one of the worst feelings to dig into your stuff only to find it a complete wreck from the last outing? After a long day the last thing you want to do is unload and reorganize, but you always thank yourself later

LightsOutLitch says:

Great video! By far my favorite channel and I learn so much. I would try the St Croix avid x 7’4 H as a jig rod if I were you. I like it and I wonder what it compares to others in your opinion. Also, it doesn’t break the bank.

Kevin Zap says:

Have you guys ever tried the megabass i slides? I have the 262 and it seems like a good bait
