My First Fish on the FLY!

In this video, I catch my first pond fish on my new fly rod/reel! I was searching for a largemouth bass, but could only get a bite from a couple of bluegill. It was still a really fun day.

Thanks for watching!

Sam Halfman says:

I know you just started fly fishing, welcome to the dark side, but you’ll get much better distance and accuracy if you tighten up your stroke and the resulting loop of line. The tip of your rod should stay much more “level” and travel in a straight line, accelerating to a crisp stop forward and back.

Also, if you are targeting largemouth get a popper style fly and go early (like first light) and vary the strip with some pauses. Pond killer.

Congrats on your first fly rod fish and keep up the good work! Tight Lines!
